Following a period of review with the nursery operating alongside a limited service from the library, Trustees of the King Edward VI College Site Foundation, known as The Mansion, are now seeking to introduce further activities back in to the Mansion on a phased basis. This includes the reintroduction of tenant activities and in time, a limited set of sessional hire activities. Plans are being guided by the government regulations, in the context of a complex layout of the Mansion, acknowledging the diverse needs of the user groups.

Trustees are working collaboratively with tenants to understand their needs in the first instance and what impact the past 6 months has had on their activities in order to support them where possible as they phase back in to using the Mansion. Trustees will take all tenant’s responses, wider risk assessments and development plans for the Mansion into account when considering this next phase of activity. We have been very grateful to work closely with the nursery and library as they have navigated this journey and their use of the building over recent months.

The work of the volunteer team has been critical to sustaining the Mansion throughout lockdown. If you are interested in helping sustain community buildings through volunteering your time please get in touch at or for more detail on membership see

We recognise that as guidelines are subject to change our plans may also have to change and so we appreciate your continued patience as Totnes Community Development Society (which manages the Mansion), tenants and hirers work this through.

Beyond this we are pleased to be continuing to support the design team responsible for finalising the plans for essential refurbishment and development of the Mansion, as funded by the Architectural Heritage Fund, towards the submission for Listed Building Consent.
