The Mansion on Totnes Fore Street is a charitable community facility. It is run by Totnes Community Development Society, welcomes all members of the community, and supports over 70 local groups and organisations to use the building to run activities and deliver services to local people.
Join in with activities at the Mansion
There are a whole range of classes, workshops and services run at the Mansion. We are of course also home to the Totnes Library. So if you want to learn something different in 2019, enjoy a new type of dance or exercise, or need support with a problem then we invite you to contact one of the groups and organisations running activities year round.
You can download more information about the Mansion and a copy of the Mansion Directory with contact details of organisations operating here from the website. http://totnescommunity.org.uk/mansion/
Improving the Mansion
The Mansion is an old building and the running costs are high. The Trustees are working with contractors to plan a reconfiguration of heating, lighting and some of the spaces themselves to make the building easier to use and reduce running costs. This preliminary work is part of a long-term maintenance and development plan in part funded by the Architectural Heritage Fund, to support the long term sustainability of this historic building.
Want to start a new club, group or workshop at the Mansion?
If you are a community group or local organisation wanting to run activities within Totnes to support local people then please do get in touch. There are a number of rooms at the Mansion that are specifically set-up for all the different activities that support this community: meetings, art classes, workshops, dance, drop-in, and advice sessions.
The Charity has fee policy in place which recognises the need to keep hire fees to a minimum, and to facilitate those who can pay for space to do so. However, for many new activities or groups, Trustees of the Charity recognise that there may be a period where a group cannot pay the full cost of hiring space. Many of these groups want to meet the object of the charity to support welfare of and education for people in and around Totnes through community run services.
Therefore, if you are setting up new sessions or are struggling to run services for this community and need space you can apply for free or reduced space online through the website above.
New spaces for the community
Over the past two years running the Mansion, Trustees have received an increasing number of requests for space for community events and workshops as well as for individuals and groups offering one-to-one support on a range of mental health, health and social issues.
The Pulse Building is now available and offers events space for community groups wanting hall space for up to 45 people, some breakout space and refreshment facilities. The Compton Room is now open in the main building which offers reduced cost space for counselling and other essential support appointments.
Do get in touch to arrange a visit or to view the spaces mentioned above. email@example.com
